Home is a State of Mind

My name is Josue, but I go by “J” for those who are still mastering the art of pronouncing my name. Not because I’m giving in, but because I know how challenging it can be to pronounce words in a language other than your own.

I was born and raised in Guatemala City, went to New Orleans for school, and later spent six years in Asia. During that time, I volunteered for four years with a local arts organization, helping lead filmmaking workshops for teenagers and encouraging young people to find their voice through the visual arts. Eventually, I made my way back to my hometown to fully develop my own career path.

Writer and filmmaker, but a storyteller above all. Finding the right way to tell a story is at the core of everything I do.

During the day, I work with clients who want to strengthen the way they communicate. I write, develop ideas, and help people shape their projects, whether that means consulting on a screenplay, providing script coverage, developing content, or overhauling a piece of writing that has been sitting close to their heart for years.

At night, I turn to my own stories. Sometimes that means working on a novel, developing a new short film, or continuing the ongoing uphill battle of getting my first feature film off the ground.

My work has reached audiences around the world, from short films such as SHARDS to screenplays such as Life in VHS, and I continue to develop projects across film, television, and prose.
